We all know that starting the day right is very important. Having a good start to the day can make a positive different on the rest of the day as well. This “Start the Day Right!” program essentially means that at the start of the school day students will be given a choice as to how you would like to start the day in relation to the Good Morning Greetings. This program includes the following six options: Saying “Good morning” Giving a High Five Hug Wave Fist Pump Handshake This program will be a great way to build a sense of classroom community, unity, build rapport and a sense of connection with each other. To introduce this program into the classroom a student letter has been written explaining and introducing the program to students. There are visuals for each option included and you simply put the visuals on the wall and as you walk into the classroom students can choose which option they would like to use. There are a total of 60 cards which include a particular behaviour and choice which occur within a school environment. These include within the classroom, at recess, in the corridor, on a bus and in the playground. On each card, the student as asked to reflect on the situation and choose whether it is a helpful or unhelpful choice. The student may require some reflective questioning should they need prompting as to how and why a behaviour may be helpful or unhelpful. These cards are created to facilitate conversation, discussion and insight. This resource includes 60 cards which has a narrative of what is happening in the situation, as well as the cards without the narrative to encourage the student to really reflect on the situation. This is a great self-reflection workbook that can be utilized in its entirety or as separate activity worksheets. There is a total of 16 pages which encourages self reflection around the students level of anxiety level and introduces the concept of concurrent emotions (i.e.: that one emotion can exist with others). This resource primarily focuses on anxiety and worried but also explores the following emotions which exist concurrently. These include: anger, disgust, disappointment, excitement, furious, tired, scared, nervous, lonely, innocent, confused, embarrassed, happy, frustrated, worried, sad, shocked, surprised, proud, irritated. Understanding your personality traits can be really important in helping students understand who they are as well as their core beliefs and values. This resource will help students explore not only how they would describe themselves but will focus on their individual personality traits. For each personality trait students will be asked to reflect on how much that personality trait resonates with you by rating from 1-10. These 48 cards were developed for children to learn in a non-threatening manner key areas relating to positive behavior, protective behaviours, relationships, sexuality and puberty. By having children utilize these cards with others, an equal opportunity exists for role modelling, education and learning from others appropriate responses to the questions. Even when inappropriate responses are provided, it provides the foundation for reflective understanding and development of insight and learning. These cards allow for self-expression, enhancement of self esteem and confidence and brainstorming alternative behavioural and interactional choices and actions. The questions also provide a framework to improve children’s ability to accept responsibility for their choices and actions around their behaviours and to reflect upon experiences and choices and explore and process the feelings and emotions. These cards are great to utilize with just two people or a larger group. The questions are divided into a number of key areas which include: Getting to know others (initiating and maintaining conversations) Problem solving scenarios Protective Behaviours Puberty, Relationships and Sexuality Self-Esteem Learning appropriate social behaviours and interactions including protective behaviours. For each emotion and feeling there are three pages dedicated to writing, drawing, colouring and reflective exercises. This workbook will allow your students to express their thoughts and feelings about different emotions and explore them through writing, drawing and pictures in a trauma-informed way. Students can be as creative as they would like in their workbook. This workbook reiterates the key message that all feelings are okay. Giving and Accepting compliments are a great social skill required for life! This is a whole class program which can be implemented to support the classroom to be unified, peaceful, develop pro-social behaviours and learn to reinforce and encourage positive anti-bullying classrooms which embrace individuality. How does this program work? Included is pages where all the students names are included. The students choose a person (whose name is not crossed out yet) and write them a compliment on one of the pages. They then cross their name out of the list so that people are not doubling up! Simple write them a compliment and give the book to them! And this continues until all the students give and receive a like and admire compliment! Everything you need to implement this program is included. Simply print, bind or put into a folder and you are ready to implement! This program has been used many times in many classrooms which has been a resounding success! Check out our “You are a Staff Superstar” Compliment Journal (pass it forward program) designed especially for teachers and staff members!
